Tackle HIV Garden

As an award-winning garden designer in the UK, Manoj Maldé was commissioned by ViiV Healthcare and Tackle HIV to create a public garden that would do more than simply look beautiful — it needed to challenge perceptions, spark conversation, and tell a deeply important story. The brief was to address the stigma surrounding HIV, while communicating hope, progress, and the message that the virus can affect anyone. The challenge lay in translating complex medical and social narratives into a space that felt accessible, reflective, and emotionally engaging.

Through a highly considered garden design approach, Manoj drew inspiration from the molecular structure of HIV medication, translating it into hexagonal forms, sculptural elements, and a bespoke water feature that introduced movement and life into the space. Layered planting, symbolic details, and immersive seating areas encouraged visitors to pause, reflect, and connect. The result is a powerful, biophilic garden — one that raises awareness, celebrates medical advancement, and creates a meaningful connection between people, nature, and place
